Bear Advent 2024: Day 17 Trapiistes Rochefort 6

Two days ago my kitchen refrigerator shit the bed.  That's a technical term for when a machine stops performing it's desired function.  Car stops driving, AC stops blowing cold air, etc...  You get the picture.  I'm fortunate enough to have a full sized beer fridge, but facing a crisis my beer was evicted to keep family groceries cold.  (I'm putting this on my Dad of the year application!)

Anyways, I put Day 17 in the fridge pressed against some apples and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and I'm excited because Day 17 is James' birthday and James has surely hooked us up.  Fastforward to 7:15am when the Omnipotent Beer Czar (Mrs. DMP) let's me know that a beer fell out of the fridge and shattered.  As there was only one beer in the fridge, I was crestfallen, but also aware enough that asking, "WTF just happened?" would not be well received.  (Husband of the year points there for those counting at home...)

For five-ish years I've celebrated beer advent, and while I occasionally get fast and loose with the schedule, I've never missed a day, so I'm not coping great with the prospects of missing Day 17.  I begin to scour the internet for a bottle of Trappistes Rochefort 6 (3.71/92/97) searching fine establishments such as Dominion Wine and Beer, Arrowine, The Brew Shop and Total Wine.  I can't source one of these things closer than Fredericksburg, and the trip down 95 is not in the cards for me.  I decide to use the Find this beer! feature on Untappd, and low and behold the Lost Dog Cafe rides to the rescue.  They keep a current inventory on Untappd, and had a few bottles of the correct beer.  I grabbed lunch at The Italian Store, and then walked on over to buy a replacement Advent Beer.  BTW, for those in the immediate area Lost Dog has really built out there togo beer selection.   Walking out of there with only one bottle took a real act of courage and restraint.  (More good guy points for me!  I'm killing this.)

So after a  long I got to enjoy this delightful Dubbel from Belgium:)  It's the definition of good beer, and is delightfully simple yet complex. It's got a little sweet maltiness, and some body to make sure you don't kill it in two gulps.  It also helped me forget about refrigerator death for a few short minutes, so it's a keeper.  Thanks James!
