Beer Advent 2024 Day 1: Notch Left of the Dial

Beer Advent is back!  With Thanksgiving coming late, I didn't have time to mentally prepare for the challenge of drinking 24 beers and 6 bottles of wine in December without my personal life burning down around me.  However, have no fear, I'm a professional and I'll drink the beer, write a handful of blog posts and still wrap an occasional present while watching Die Hard.  Yippy Ki Yay Mother Fucker!

Beer #1 hails from the great beer state of Massachusetts although not from one of the whales.  Notch brewing proudly tells us, they've "been brewing session beers since before it was cool."  As a man who had required procurement training on Monday, a session beer for Day 1 sounds delightful.  So without further adieu, the first beer of the advent calendar is Left of the Dial (3.69/87/78).

Clocking in at a very manageable 4.3%, this beer nails the one thing I ask from a session.  It doesn't taste like a real IPA that has 50% water added to it.  This has a bright crisp hop bite, moderate mouthfeel and just a tinge of bitterness on the back end.  I'd say this was a beer you could drink while watching the New England Patriots play, but this season requires straight whiskey if you're going to subject yourself to that team.

Great for watching football teams that don't suck.

We'll be back tomorrow to see if beer number 2 attempts to kick my ass on a Monday.
