And on Sunday the blog rested (and recovered from Saturday night!)... This was a strange weekend in El casa de DMP as my wife and daughter were out of town for a softball tournament leaving the boys and the animals in charge for roughly 48 hours. When left to my own devices, this is how a weekend flows:
- Dinner with my son at TGIFridays. (Don't judge, it was right next to the movie theater and we were in a rush.) The burger was mid, as the kids would say, but the New Jack Fashioned was surprisingly really good.
- The Running Man is a well done, big dumb action movie. It literally never slows down from about 4 minutes in until the credits roll. Don't think too much on this one and you can enjoy it.
- Wake up Saturday morning, feed the dog and cats and scramble to the golf course. Play 9 holes, and go out of your way to not make any putts bigger than 3 inches.
- Start a rack of ribs smoking in the horizontal offset smoker your son found on the side of the road earlier this year. (He gets big points for cleaning and refurbishing this!)
- Set up an outside TV and turn college football on. Have some friends over and drink some Focal Banger, a couple Port City brews and a 2019 Founders KBS for beer dessert. Cheer on Notre Dame, Oklahoma and UVA and pour some out for South Carolina who had just a brutal loss to Texas A&M.
- Eat ribs and mac and cheese with the boy.
- Bust out the PS4 and play Sniper Elite 4. Kill Nazis and realize you don't have the patience to be a mediocre sniper, nevermind an elite one.
- Wake up Sunday morning and start doing a ton of laundry so that when the girls come home they can start washing dirty uniforms and clothes right away.
- Hit the grocery store and grab shrimp and dirty rice for dinner, along with staples for the week. Find out that your son gets up and eats lunch meat in the middle of the night, and nod because suddenly $200 grocery bills make sense.
- Lay down and watch Bucs vs the Bills and realize that Josh Allen is an unstoppable force of nature.
- Welcome the girls home, send yout daughter to a birthday party, and watch the next episode of Pluribus. Goddamn is this show strange but compelling.
- Finally, watch the Eagles break Jared Goff's soul in Sunday Night Football. I've never seen a pro QB fall apart like that, but in the face of that defensive line, I get it.
All in all, it was a baller weekend. I don't generally get that much autonomy, and for 48 hours, I reveled in it. Now this weekend, the girls are out of town again, but I signed up to run my first ever 10k. We will see if that is the best or worst decision that I'll make all weekend. (Thoughts on the race to come later this week...)
